I live in Ohio and this the blog that I started. Currently there are 133 markers, there are over 900 Cities and Villages and one day it is my hope that all of them will have a Proclamation for September.
Ohio Proclmations

A Challenge to the Cities and Villages

My second part to my challenge to you is by next September your city will also support us in raising awareness too by illuminated your City Hall or Landmark BLUE in September even for one day is a start or even the whole month would show the families of prostate cancer that We are not alone in the fight to raise awareness. Marysville, Ohio has made a commitment to turn a pond Blue n Aldersgate Park and Lancaster is talking about turning their Clock Tower for September. I hope you would consider my request and have Ohio be the first State to have all cities supporting Prostate Cancer Awareness.

The overwhelming support is growing and it make me proud that there are so many cities and villages that are stepping up and raising awareness all around Ohio. I would love to also add your city and village supporting me in raising awareness for Prostate Cancer.

Can I count on a commitment from your City or Village for 2015?

Zeemaps.com

I use this website and each time a response of a Proclamation or Commitment is received. A marker is placed on the map, I copy and pate the email into the details section of the marker. You can also upload a picture of the Proclamation as well.
Map Currently this map has no markers from other states.

Photo copies

Each Proclamation that is sent I make a color photo copy of it and place it in a binder. If there is a note or letter sent that is also copies and placed in a protective cover as well. This makes it easier to share the Proclamations with others at events with out worry of them getting damaged or lost. Currently they are not in any particular order.

Beautifully matted

A couple of Cities have sent their Proclamations that they have beautifully matted!

Organized Originals

When an Original is received it is placed in a folder with the City or Village name. then placed in alphabetical order. There are two that are standing up as they will not fit in a folder. They were professioinally matted by the Cities.

Contact responses

Each time an Email, Linkedin etc is received I print them out and put them in a three ring binder. And organize them with Alphabet tabbed dividers, this way it is easy to jump to the first letter of the City or Village. Once I receive the original copy of the Proclamation the email is marked with received. It is still kept in the binder and can be taken with me to different events for others to see some of the personal stories that they Mayors or Council Members has shared with me.

Spread sheet

To keep track of who I contacted and the status of the request.  This it a copy of the spread sheet that I am using. It started out white and as I contact them the color is changed and notes made.

Yellow orange - email sent
Pinkish color - email read
Blue - faxed
Purple - Linkedin

Share your personal story

When contacting the Mayors and Council Members I share my personal story.

Honorable Mayor or Council Member

I would like to introduce myself my name is Linda Hoetger, I am the wife & caregiver of a Prostate Cancer Survivor, Advocate to raising awareness for prostate cancer and the mom of 4 sons. June 19, 2009 we were told the devastating news that my husband has an aggressive form of prostate cancer, we were both stunned, shocked and horrified. We had to learn a new foreign language PSA, Gleason, positive margins just to name a few. It is hard enough trying to deal with the diagnosis and finding even harder that when you say these two words Prostate Cancer, people run the other way. I know it is hard for the men to talk about being diagnosed with prostate cancer but this is not just a Man’s disease it is a Couple’s disease. For our families every month is Prostate Cancer Awareness month 24/7 365!

Even 5 years later I am still shocked, stunned and horrified that prostate cancer does not get the same support in September for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month as October does for Breast Cancer. This is why I am pleading to the Mayors of Oho to have a Proclamation for Prostate Cancer Awareness and show your support in September

I contacted Governor Kasich's office in 2013 to inquire about a Resolution for September in Ohio. Sadly there was not one, so I started the process to have one done. I am happy to say that as of September 1, 2014 in the state of Ohio the first Resolution was written and signed for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month by Governor John R. Kasich.

It is time now for the cities and villages to get involved and sign a Proclamation for Prostate Cancer to help raise awareness for the month of September. I started a blog and Facebook page to share the overwhelming support and also sample text of the Whereas for the Proclamation. There is a map of the cities that are participating. In a few short months the map is growing with many markers.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month September

These are just some examples. Please feel free to use your own. If you have some examples that I may add to these please let me know and I will be more than happy to add them. With your continued support we can make Prostate Cancer a disease that can be one day be cured.

Last year the 1st Resolution supporting Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September.  It was signed John R. Kasich, Governor of Ohio. In 2009 my husband was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer it was devastating to say the least. But when September rolls around saying prostate cancer it is so Taboo! Doing a search in the Governor's Media Room online there was not Resolution for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. So I contacted Governor Kasich's Office to find out what needed to be done. They needed the proper text for the Resolution, I got it and sent it in. It was already late in September of 2013 but was told that it would be done September 2014.

After receiving the Resolution for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, I did not stop there. It was time to get the Mayors and Council Members involved it raising awareness as well.  Currently there are 133 Cities and Villages in Ohio supporting my efforts in Ohio. Now I am contacted by others on how I have been so successful.
